How to choose a box

  • Mailer box or shipping box?

A mailer box is a presentation-ready corrugated structure with an attached lid and tuck closure. A shipping box is a broader transit-box format and often needs tape to close.

  • Corrugated or paperboard?

Corrugated board (E-flute, 1.2 to 2mm, or B-flute, 2.5 to 3mm) suits shipping and heavier items. Paperboard (300–400gsm) suits boxes that hold and present the product on a shelf.

  • Folding carton or rigid box?

Folding cartons are lightweight paperboard boxes supplied flat and assembled for use. Rigid boxes are premium, sturdy boxes for high-end products, often called gift boxes.

  • Which closure style?

Tuck boxes close with tuck-in flaps, in straight tuck, reverse tuck, snap lock, auto lock and seal end styles. Mailer boxes close with an attached lid.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of custom boxes does PacksDo make?

We make mailer boxes, shipping boxes, corrugated boxes, folding cartons, tuck boxes, display boxes, pillow boxes, gable boxes, rigid boxes and tray and sleeve boxes. Each is made to your size and printed with your artwork.

Which custom box is best for shipping?

Mailer boxes and shipping boxes are made from corrugated cardboard for shipping. A mailer box can be used as a shipping box and presents well when opened. Paperboard boxes such as tuck boxes and display boxes are made to hold and present the product, so an additional shipping carton is strongly recommended for transit.

Which custom box is best for a retail shelf?

Folding cartons, tuck boxes, display boxes, pillow boxes and gable boxes are paperboard boxes for retail. Display boxes show products on a counter or shelf, and tuck boxes suit products like cosmetics, electronics and retail goods.

What is the difference between paperboard and corrugated boxes?

Paperboard boxes use thin, stiff board (300–400gsm) and ship flat. Corrugated boxes add a wavy layer, called the flute, between sheets of board for strength: E-flute is 1.2 to 2mm thick and B-flute is 2.5 to 3mm thick for bulky or weighty items.

What is the minimum order quantity for custom boxes?

Minimums at PacksDo start from 50 units and depend on the box type. For example, rigid boxes and shipping boxes start at 50 units, and mailer boxes, folding cartons, tuck boxes and display boxes start at 100 units.

How long does it take to get custom boxes?

Production usually takes 5–7 working days, and 16–21 working days for larger orders. It starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.

Can I order a sample of a custom box first?

Yes. We offer a digital print proof, a structural sample, a simplified sample, a press proof and a pre-production sample, and there is also a sample kit. See packaging samples to compare them.
