Envelopes

What Are Custom Envelopes?

Custom envelopes are flat mailers printed with your brand. We offer three kinds: cardboard envelopes, stiff envelopes that keep documents, photos and prints from bending in the mail; padded envelopes, with a padded lining for small, fragile items such as jewelry and electronics; and paper envelopes, for letters, invitations, cards and documents.

Photographers and print sellers, artists, offices, invitation and stationery sellers, cosmetic and jewelry brands, and subscription senders all use them. For anything heavy, sharp or very fragile, a box is the better choice: see mailer boxes.

How to Choose an Envelope

  • Cardboard envelopes

Choose these when the contents must not bend: photos, prints, documents, certificates and flat samples. Tell us what you send and how it travels, and we confirm the board and the closure.

  • Padded envelopes

Choose these for small items that can be dented or scratched, such as cosmetics, jewelry and electronics accessories. The padding protects against light knocks, but a box is better for fragile or sharp items.

  • Paper envelopes

Choose these for letters, invitations, cards, vouchers and documents. A heavier paper feels more premium, and a lighter one costs less to post. They are not for flat items that must not bend.

  • Shipping clothing or soft items?

Mailer bags carry online orders of clothing and other soft goods.

  • Need more protection?

A mailer box protects and presents an order better than an envelope.

What to Tell Us for a Quote

Send us the details below and we will confirm what is possible. Size and weight set your postage, so check the finished size against your carrier's limits before you order.

  • Contents. Measure the largest item and its thickness, and add a little room so it slides in and out.
  • Style and closure. Tell us the envelope style you have in mind and how it should close and open.
  • Quantity. Tell us how many you send in a month or a year. Envelopes store flat, so a larger order is easy to keep.
  • Print. Plan the front, the back and the flap separately, and keep a clear area for the address label. Send your artwork (up to 5 files of 20 MB each) and your colors as Pantone or CMYK values. We offer free design support and a proof before production.
  • Delivery location. We reply within 1 business day, and quotes include shipping within the United States and Canada. Free design support is included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between cardboard, padded and paper envelopes?

Cardboard envelopes are rigid and keep contents flat. Padded envelopes have a cushioned lining for small items that can be dented or scratched. Paper envelopes are lighter and suit letters, cards and documents.

Which envelope should I use for photos or prints?

A cardboard envelope is stiff and resists bending. How well it does depends on the board and the handling, so tell us the contents and how they travel, and we confirm the options.

Can a padded envelope protect fragile items?

A padded envelope protects against light knocks. A box is better for fragile or sharp items. Tell us what you ship and we advise.

How do I choose an envelope size?

Measure the largest item you will send, plus its thickness, and add a little room. Send the size and we confirm what works. Check the finished size against your carrier's limits.

Do you have envelope dieline templates?

Yes. Our envelope dielines show the flat shape of several styles, which helps you plan artwork.

How much do custom envelopes cost, and what is the minimum order?

Most product pages show a starting price per unit, and the others are quoted on request. The price depends on quantity, size, material, printing and finishes, and it drops as quantity grows. Minimums across our range are 50, 100 or 500 units depending on the product, and we confirm the minimum for your envelopes in your quote. Quotes include shipping.

How long does it take to get custom envelopes?

Production usually takes 5–7 working days, and 16–21 working days for larger orders. It starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.
