What to Look for in Padded Envelopes
A padded envelope adds a cushion to a mailer, so it is made for small items that can be dented or scratched.
- What it protects. Cosmetics, jewelry, electronics and small accessories need some cushion. Very heavy or sharp items need a box instead.
- Padding type. Bubble or paper padding behave differently. Ask what is possible, and tell us what you ship.
- Seal. A peel-and-seal strip is quick and secure. Test it on a sample, and try to open it without tearing it.
- Size. Measure the item in its own packaging, and add room for the padding on each side. A tight envelope loses its protection.
- Postage. Padding adds bulk and weight. Check the finished size against your carrier.
Where Padded Envelopes Are Used
- Cosmetic and skincare brands shipping small tubes and jars.
- Jewelry and accessory sellers posting light pieces.
- Electronics accessories such as cables and cases.
- Subscription senders with small items and samples.
Artwork and Printing Tips for Padded Envelopes
- A padded envelope has a textured surface, so very fine print may look soft. Use a bold logo and large text.
- Keep a clear space for the address label on the front. A label over the logo makes the logo hard to read.
- Keep the print away from the seal strip and the edge seams.
- Tell us about the surface color. Colors on kraft look warmer and darker than on white.
- Tell us your colors as Pantone or CMYK values, and ask for a proof.
Planning Your Order
Measure the item as you pack it, and decide how much cushion it needs. Think about how many you send each week, and check the size against your carrier's limits. Padded envelopes are bulky to store.
Test a sample with a real item and post it. Our Standard Sample Kit is $50, shipping included, and the Samples page lists the other types. We confirm pricing and minimums with your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I order custom padded envelopes?
Send your size, quantity, delivery location and artwork with a quote request. We prepare pricing based on the size, material, printing, finishing and quantity, and reply within 1 business day. After you approve the layout and artwork, the order goes into production.
How much do custom padded envelopes cost?
Pricing depends on the size, quantity, material, printing and finishes. Request a quote and we will prepare pricing for your project.
How long does it take to get custom padded envelopes?
Timing depends on the product, the size and the quantity, and it is confirmed with your quote. Production starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.
What size padded envelope should I order?
Measure the item as you pack it, and add room for the padding on each side. Send the size and we confirm what works.
Can a padded envelope protect fragile items?
It protects against light knocks, and a box is better for fragile or sharp items. Tell us what you ship, and we advise.
Is a padded envelope the same as a bubble mailer?
They are similar. Tell us the kind of padding you want, and we confirm what is possible. See also poly mailers.
How should I label a padded envelope?
On a flat area of the front, away from the seal strip. Keep the logo outside that area, since a label on top of print is hard to read.
