Pouches

What Are Packaging Pouches?

Packaging pouches are flexible, sealed bags that hold a product and carry your brand. We offer three kinds: stand-up pouches that stand upright on a shelf, for snacks, coffee, granola and other dry goods; flat pouches for single-serve items such as sachets, samples, tea and spices; and spout pouches for pouring or squeezing liquids, sauces and baby food. Empty pouches store flat.

Coffee and tea brands, snack and granola makers, pet food sellers, spice, powder and supplement brands, cosmetic brands with sample sachets, and sauce and drink sellers all use pouches. If your product needs a rigid pack, see custom boxes.

How to Choose a Pouch

  • Stand-up pouches

Stand on a shelf like a small box. Options to consider are a zip so the customer can reseal it, a tear notch, a clear window onto the product, and a hang hole.

  • Flat pouches

The simplest pouch: a sealed pocket with no base, for thin and light products. A flat pouch bulges when filled, so measure the product at its thickest. A hang hole is often added.

  • Spout pouches

A stand-up pouch with a spout and cap. Match the spout to the product: a wide spout suits thick products and a narrow one suits liquids.

  • Need a rigid pack?

Boxes protect fragile products and give a shelf its structure. See custom boxes.

  • Need a zip bag or a cord bag?

Zip lock bags and drawstring bags are product bags.

What to Tell Us for a Quote

A pouch depends on what goes inside it, so the product matters more than anything else. Send as much of this as you can.

  • The product. Dry goods, powder, liquid or sauce? For a liquid, say whether it is hot-filled or cold, and how thick it is. Tell us what the product needs, such as protection from air, light or moisture, and we confirm what is possible.
  • Size and fill. Fill a test pouch with your real product and measure it, because volume and weight differ between products. For a flat pouch, measure the thickest point and add room for the seals.
  • Features. A zip, a tear notch, a window, a hang hole or a spout. Tell us how the customer opens and uses the pack.
  • How you fill it. By hand or by machine. Tell us your plan and we advise.
  • Quantity and print. Send your artwork (up to 5 files of 20 MB each) and your colors as Pantone or CMYK values. We offer free design support and a proof before production.
  • Delivery location. We reply within 1 business day, and quotes include shipping within the United States and Canada. Free design support is included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between stand-up, flat and spout pouches?

A stand-up pouch has a base and stands on a shelf. A flat pouch has no base and suits thin, light products and single servings. A spout pouch is a stand-up pouch with a spout and cap for liquids and soft products.

What can I pack in a pouch?

Stand-up pouches suit coffee, snacks, granola and other dry goods. Flat pouches suit sachets, samples, tea and spices. Spout pouches suit sauces, juice, puree, soap and baby food. Tell us your product and we confirm what is possible.

Are packaging pouches food safe?

Tell us if the product is food or will touch food, and we confirm suitable options for your project.

How do I choose the right pouch size?

Fill a pouch with your real product and measure the result. Product density changes the size you need, so do not go by weight alone. Send the details and we confirm.

How much do custom pouches cost?

Most product pages show a starting price per unit, and the others are quoted on request. The price depends on quantity, size, material, printing and finishes, and it drops as quantity grows. Your quote gives the final price, and it includes shipping.

How long does it take to get custom pouches?

Production usually takes 5–7 working days, and 16–21 working days for larger orders. It starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.

Can I order a sample of a pouch first?

Yes. The Standard Sample Kit is $50 with shipping included, and the Samples page lists the other sample types. Test a sample with your real product before you order.
