What to Look for in Pizza Boxes

A pizza box does three jobs: it holds the pizza flat, it keeps it warm and it survives a stack. Size is the first decision.

  • Box size against pizza size. Measure the pizza, then add room so the crust does not touch the walls. A box that is too tight squashes toppings and one that is too big lets the pizza slide.
  • Board strength. Corrugated board with a stronger flute holds a heavy pizza and a stack of boxes better, and a thin board bows under a loaded pizza. Tell us the pizza size, the toppings and how many you stack, and we confirm what suits.
  • Ventilation. A pizza gives off steam. Without a way for it to escape the crust turns soft. Ask about vent holes or a loose lid.
  • Lid and closure. Tuck strips, tabs and plain folded lids all work, but a box that stays shut in a delivery bag is the one to test.
  • Stacking and delivery bags. If riders carry several pizzas at once, check how the boxes sit together and that the size fits your delivery bags.

Where Pizza Boxes Are Used

  • Pizzerias with eat-in, takeaway and delivery orders.
  • Restaurants and bars that sell pizza as one item on the menu and want matching branded boxes.
  • Frozen and ready-to-bake pizza brands that sell in retail packs rather than hot to the door.
  • Event and catering vendors serving pizza for parties and offices.

Artwork and Printing Tips for Pizza Boxes

  • Most of the visible print sits on the lid. Put the logo in the center of the lid, where it is seen on a counter and on a stacked pile, and keep the pattern simple.
  • Do not run key text across the hinge or the lid edge. Design on the dieline: our free pizza box dielines show every fold, and your artwork is placed on the layout for you to approve before production.
  • Brown corrugated board changes how colors look. A white or light background often turns darker, so check a proof and ask about the board before you finalize colors.
  • Keep a clear area for a delivery label or sticker so a driver is not covering your logo.
  • Ask about finishes such as matte, glossy or spot UV if you want one: not every finish suits every board, and we confirm what works.

Planning Your Order

Measure your pizzas first. If you sell several sizes, list each with its crust diameter, and think about whether one box size could serve two of them. Boxes take storage room, so check the space you have and how often you will reorder. The measuring guide shows which side counts as length, width and height.

A sample is worth it here, because you can load a real pizza and stack a few boxes. The Standard Sample Kit costs $50 with shipping included, and other sample types are listed on the Samples page. Pricing and minimums come with your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order custom pizza boxes?

Send your size, quantity, delivery location and artwork with a quote request. We prepare pricing based on the size, material, printing, finishing and quantity, and reply within 1 business day. After you approve the layout and artwork, the order goes into production.

How much do custom pizza boxes cost?

Pricing depends on the size, quantity, material, printing and finishes. Request a quote and we will prepare pricing for your project.

How long does it take to get custom pizza boxes?

Timing depends on the product, the size and the quantity, and it is confirmed with your quote. Production starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.

What size pizza box do I need for a 12 inch pizza?

Send us the real diameter of your pizza and we confirm the box size with your quote. A box needs a little room around the crust, and the exact amount depends on the box style and your pizza, so a measured pizza is a better guide than the menu name.

Where should I put the logo on a pizza box?

On the lid, in the center, where it is seen on a counter and on a stack. Keep a quiet area for a delivery sticker, and keep text off the lid hinge.

Why do pizza boxes need ventilation?

A hot pizza gives off steam, and if it cannot escape it condenses and softens the crust. Vent holes or a loose lid let steam out, but heat escapes too. The right balance depends on how far your pizzas travel. Tell us the usual trip and we confirm the options.

Can I get a box for a single slice?

Yes, see our pizza slice trays. They are made for one slice, and they suit counters, food courts and events.
