What to Look for in Custom Tape
Tape does one thing, it keeps the box shut, and a branded tape also tells the customer who sent it.
- Width. A wider tape covers the seam of a larger box and looks more visible. A narrow tape suits small boxes. Measure the seam first.
- Length of roll. A longer roll means fewer changes at the packing bench, but it is heavier. Tell us how many boxes you seal each day.
- Adhesive and surface. Tape sticks differently to plain board, kraft, coated board and plastic. Tell us what you seal and we confirm what is possible.
- Paper or plastic. Paper tape is torn by hand and looks natural, and plastic tape is quick and strong. Ask what is possible.
- Dispenser. Check that the roll fits your tape gun or hand dispenser, including the core size.

Artwork and Printing Tips for Custom Tape
- Tape is long and narrow, so design a short repeating unit, such as a logo and a gap. It repeats along the roll.
- Keep the logo small enough to be seen whole across the seam. A giant logo is cut by the tape edge.
- High contrast sells: a white logo on a dark tape, or a dark logo on kraft, is easy to read on a moving parcel.
- Keep a gap between repeats. Tight repeats look busy and waste ink.
- Tell us your colors as Pantone or CMYK values, and we confirm how they print on the tape you choose.

How big should the logo be on a tape?
Make one unit of your design short enough to be seen whole across the seam of your smallest box, and leave a gap before it repeats. A design that is too large gets cut by the edges of the tape.
