Best Box Styles for Bakeries

Pick the style that suits what you sell. Every box type below links to its own page with sizes, specs and styles.

Why Bakeries Choose Custom Boxes

  • Made to fit

Every box is made to your dimensions, so cakes, cookies and pastries sit snugly and arrive looking the way they left your counter. Inserts and dividers can hold individual pieces in place.

  • Your brand on every box

Print your logo, colors and message on the outside, and on the inside for many styles. Free design support and a 3D preview help you see the result before we print.

  • Materials and coatings

White paperboard for full-color print or brown kraft for a natural look, plus varnish or lamination to protect the print.

  • Low minimums

Minimums start at 100 units for folding cartons, so a small bakery or a market stall can order custom boxes without a large run.

Materials, Printing and Finishes

Boxes are made from white SBS paperboard or brown kraft board. White gives the best print quality for full-color designs, while kraft suits a natural look with black or white printing.

Print in CMYK for photos and full-color artwork, or in Pantone to match an exact brand color. To protect the print, add a water-based varnish or a lamination layer, then finish with matte, glossy, satin or soft touch.

If your box will touch food directly, tell us when you request a quote so we can confirm the right materials and coatings for your product.

Helpful Guides

Frequently Asked Questions

Which box style suits cakes, cookies, donuts and pastries?

It depends on what you sell. A printed folding carton, with or without a window, suits cookies, pastries and slices. A tray and sleeve box works well for gift sets and presentation. Gable boxes have a built-in handle for takeaway and markets, display boxes show treats at the counter, and corrugated mailer boxes are made for sending orders by post. Browse the bakery box styles above, or tell us what you bake and we will recommend one.

How do I size a box for a cake or a tray of treats?

Measure the product at its longest, widest and tallest points, in that order: length, width, height. For a cake, measure the cake board or tin as well as the cake, and include the height of any topper, dome or piped decoration so the lid does not touch it. Send the three numbers with your quote request and we make the box to fit. Our measuring guide shows which side is which, and a structural sample lets you test the fit first.

Can I add a window so customers can see the treat?

Yes. Window cutouts are available on custom boxes, and they suit cookies, donuts and macarons on a shelf. Tell us the size and position you want when you request a quote, and we will show it on the dieline for you to approve.

Can the box hold cream, glaze or greasy bakes?

Tell us what the box will hold when you request a quote, for example cream, icing, glaze or filling. Food-contact suitability depends on the materials and coatings used, so we confirm the right options with you before production rather than assuming one box suits every bake.

How do I stop pieces sliding around in the box?

Use box inserts to hold each piece in its own space, or box dividers to split a box into compartments for mixed assortments such as cupcakes, macarons or an assorted cookie box. Both are made to fit your box.

Can I ship cakes and cookies by post?

Corrugated mailer boxes are made for shipping, and they can be printed inside and out. Add inserts or dividers to hold your bakes in place. How well a bake travels also depends on the recipe and the length of the journey, so plan your shipping method and delivery time, and ask us about the right box and board for your product.

Show 5 more questions
What can I print on the box, and can I add ingredients or allergen notes?

Print your logo, brand colors and message on the outside, and on the inside for many styles. For information that changes, such as ingredients, allergens, flavors or dates, stickers and labels are easier than reprinting boxes. Labeling rules differ by country and state, so check the requirements for your area before you finalize the design.

Can I change the design for holidays without reordering every box?

Yes. A popular approach is to keep one plain or brand-color box all year and add seasonal touches with a printed packaging sleeve, a sticker or a card. That avoids new artwork, new proofs and higher minimums for every season. Read our guide to seasonal packaging without reprinting boxes.

How much do custom bakery boxes cost, and what is the smallest order?

The price depends on the box type you choose, then on size, material, print coverage, finish and quantity, and it drops as the quantity grows. Each box type shows its own starting price on its page, in the box styles above. Most styles start at 100 units, so a small bakery can start small and reorder. Send your details with a quote request for an exact figure.

What do I send for the artwork, and can I check the design before it is printed?

Upload your logo or design with the quote form (PDF, AI, EPS, PNG, JPG or SVG, up to 5 files of 20 MB each), or ask for free design support. You then review a 3D digital proof, the dieline and the artwork, and approve them before production begins. For a physical check, order a sample. Because every box is custom made, orders cannot be returned or refunded once manufacturing has started: see our return and refund policy.

How long will my boxes take, and is shipping included?

Production typically takes 5–7 working days after payment and artwork approval, and 16–21 working days for larger orders, plus 1–5 days of shipping preparation and then transit. If you have a launch date or a holiday deadline, say so in your quote request, or ask about rush orders. Every quote price includes shipping; delivery time depends on the carrier and your location and is shared with your quote. See the turn around time and shipping policy pages.
