What to Look for in PVC Bags

A PVC bag is judged by how clear it is, how it closes and how well it carries its load, so check these before you ask for a quote.

• Clear or tinted. A clear bag shows the product and works as a small display. Ask what colors and tints are possible if you want less show-through.
• Closure. PVC bags are made with zips, snap buttons, heat seals and carry handles. Tell us how the bag should open and close, and we confirm what is possible.
• Film thickness. A bag for heavy items, or one that customers will reuse, needs stronger film. Tell us the weight of the product.
• Shape. A tote bag has handles and a flat base, and a pouch is a flat bag with a zip. Say how the bag will be carried and how it should sit.
• Cleaning and reuse. PVC wipes clean, so it suits bags that customers keep, such as cosmetic and travel bags.
• What goes inside. If the bag will hold food, cosmetics or children's products, tell us. The material has to suit the use, and rules differ from country to country.

Artwork and Printing Tips for PVC Bags

• Print a simple logo or pattern in one or two colors. Fine detail can be lost on clear film.
• A white layer behind the print makes colors stronger on clear film. Tell us what you want to see, and we confirm what is possible.
• Keep text and logos clear of seams, the zip and the handles, where the film is folded or pressed.
• Plan how the product looks through the bag, because the contents become part of the design.
• Tell us your colors as Pantone or CMYK values, and ask for a proof before production.
