About Standard Poly Mailers
The most common type poly mailers, made from a combination of polyethylene. Cost-effective and come in various sizes, offering basic protection for non-fragile items.
When to Choose Standard Poly Mailers
A standard poly mailer is the baseline of the range: a flat polyethylene bag with a self-sealing strip and no padding. It is the lightest and most compact option, so it is usually the lowest on the cost scale, adds the least weight to a parcel and takes the least storage space. The price of that simplicity is protection: it keeps out moisture and resists tears and punctures, but it does not cushion.
Choose a standard mailer when the product is soft or sturdy enough to travel without padding: clothing, soft accessories, towels, books and paperwork. Choose a padded bubble or soft shell style when the product has corners, glass or electronics that need cushioning. Choose a clear mailer when you want the contents to show, and a resealable return style when returns are a big part of your business. If your goods are heavy or sharp, look at the hard shell style instead.
What to Look for in Standard Poly Mailers
- Size. Measure the product folded or packed, then add a little room for the closing flap. An oversized mailer wastes material and can add dimensional weight, and a mailer that is too tight puts stress on the seal.
- Opacity. Ask whether the film is fully opaque, so that dark or detailed products cannot be seen through it.
- Film strength. Tell us what you ship and how heavy it is, and we advise on the film options.
- Closing strip. The self-sealing strip is what holds the parcel shut in transit. Ask about its strength and whether a tamper-evident strip is available.
- Space for the shipping label. Plan a clear area, usually the back, where the label can stick flat.
Where Standard Poly Mailers Are Used
- Clothing and apparel. Folded garments, activewear and swimwear.
- Accessories. Scarves, belts and soft goods.
- Documents and books. Paperwork, magazines and paperback books.
- Subscription items. Light, non-fragile products that go out every month.
Artwork and Printing Tips
- Keep a clear area on the back for the shipping label. A label over a busy pattern is harder to scan and read.
- Keep artwork away from the strip that seals the mailer, since print there can interfere with the adhesive.
- A bold logo, or a repeating pattern, works better than fine detail on a flexible film that creases.
- Light colors printed on a dark film look weaker than the same colors on a light film. Tell us the film color and the print colors you want, and ask for a proof.
- We confirm the printing method and the number of colors with your quote, so send your artwork and a color reference.
How Custom Standard Poly Mailers Compares with Other Poly Mailer Styles
Not sure this is the right style? Here is what sets the other styles apart.
- Padded Bubble Poly Mailer
These mailers include a layer of padding (usually bubble wrap) for added protection. They suit fragile or valuable items that need extra cushioning.
- Resealable Return Poly Mailer
Featuring an adhesive strip that can be sealed multiple times, these mailers offer convenience for returns or repackaging, making them popular for e-commerce.
- Soft Shell Poly Bubble Mailer
These mailers have a flexible, soft outer layer combined with a bubble lining inside. Provide cushioning while being lightweight and cost-effective for shipping delicate items.
- Hard Shell Bubble Mailer
Thicker and more robust than standard poly mailers, these are designed for shipping larger or heavier items. They provide enhanced durability and protection against punctures.
- Kraft Paper Bubble Mailer
Feature a sturdy outer layer of kraft paper, with a bubble lining inside for added protection. Recycled stock options are available on request.
- Clear Poly Mailer
As the name suggests, these mailers are transparent, which allows the contents to be easily seen. They are often used when showcasing items like clothing or promotional materials.

The most common type poly mailers, made from a combination of polyethylene. Cost-effective and come in various sizes, offering basic protection for non-fragile items.
How much do standard poly mailers cost?
Pricing starts from $0.40 per unit, and prices and quotes include shipping. Your price depends on quantity, size, material, printing and finishes, and falls as quantity grows. Request a quote for your project.
How long does it take to get standard poly mailers?
Production at PacksDo usually takes 5–7 working days. It starts once your artwork is approved and payment is received. Larger or more complex orders can take longer, and we confirm the date in your quote. Delivery usually takes another 4–5 working days, depending on the carrier and your location, so a typical order arrives in about 2 weeks and larger orders take longer. See the turnaround guide.
Are standard poly mailers waterproof?
They are designed to resist moisture, as well as tears and punctures, which protects items such as clothing and books from rain and damp in transit. They are not a sealed container, so if the product must stay completely dry, tell us and we advise.
How do I choose the size of a standard poly mailer?
Measure the product at its widest and longest points once it is folded and packed, then allow a little extra room for the closing flap. Send us the dimensions and we confirm the size with your quote.
Can I put a shipping label on a printed poly mailer?
Yes, as long as there is a clear area where the label can sit flat. Plan that area into your artwork, usually on the back, and keep it free of heavy ink.
